QUESTIONS
What does wildness mean to you? Being in the outdoors surrounded by nature, preferably enjoying it with friends. I enjoy the changing seasons and especially like noticing how trees change throughout the year. One of my favourite things to do is Nordic Walking, and when I can, I love walking along the coast when the sea is wild!
What first drew you to Wild Mosaic? I was drawn to Jon’s mission and his kindness. I felt compelled to support him. It felt like an affordable and accessible way of making a contribution to regenerating nature - putting back a little of what I’d taken away.
Can you describe your relationship to your tile? I visited our tile in the height of Summer in 2025 with my youngest son, Nathan. We got to look at the area, which felt special, and Jon talked us through the changes he has seen so far and is encouraging on the site. It makes me happy when I think we are making a small difference as part of a larger community.
And how do you bring more wildness into your life? I’ve just relocated my desk from my bedroom into an office in the garden. As of today, the garden is a blank canvas (of mud!), though I did see a red robin sitting in the middle of the mud this week, and that felt nice. In a year’s time, I will have a view of a garden from my desk, full of plants that attract wildlife.
If you could be a ‘Wild Thing’, what would you be? I don’t have a particularly wild personality. Maybe I am most like a scarecrow? A slightly odd person, standing resolutely protecting our people, planet and profit. Slowly encouraging people to look over and think this wild scarecrowy thing might actually be on to something.
